It is extremely distressing and heart-breaking to witness the developments rapidly unfolding in Ukraine over the past few days. The evolving calamity is enormous and is affecting countless
innocent civilians in Ukraine. We are alarmed about the effect of current humanitarian crisis on providing essential medical care to the effected people who are in dire need. We are also concerned about its effect on our medical colleagues in Ukraine having to work in such an extremely difficult environment. We strongly emphasise the need for implementing the principle of medical neutrality as per the international humanitarian law by all parties involved in this armed conflict.
We call upon the Russian authorities recognise the need for the healthcare professionals in Ukraine continue to care for patients without the fear of being subjected to violence, hostility, or disruption. Our thoughts are with our healthcare colleagues in Ukraine, and we appeal to the Russian government to come with a peaceful solution.
